Faculty complaints and investigations. Campus responses to UCIFI’s public records requests for faculty-only data. Where a source does not confirm its respondent population, that limitation is identified in the campus notes.
Original source categories are retained. A closed case does not establish that the complaint was false.
Formal investigation findings
Findings and disciplinary sanctions are different measures. Sanctions are not supplied in these tables.
How reports were received
Intake methods, using the source’s labels.
Reported values
Exact counts and original category labels for the selected dataset.
Public Reports
Data extracted from publicly available campus reports, with links to the original publications. These reports may cover faculty, staff, students, and other respondent groups.
UCLA · UC Berkeley
Match the population before comparing. These reports cover different offices, respondent groups and years. Academic personnel and employee totals are broader than faculty. UCLA’s investigation counts include cases still in progress; Berkeley’s completed-investigation counts exclude them. Received and completed cases may also come from different years.

Disciplinary outcomes
Level I, II and III are severity groupings created for this report, not uniform policy categories. Sanctions are determined by the responsible units. See the report’s definitions (PDF p. 25).
All percentages are reproduced as printed, including rounding. They have not been converted to estimated case counts.
VOLUME · ALL RESPONDENT AFFILIATIONS
These counts follow different stages: reports received, cases closed, and investigations completed during the selected year. They do not form a complaint-to-outcome funnel.

Adjudication follows an investigation. These cases may have completed their investigations in an earlier year.
Sources and definitions
Campus responses and public annual reports. Updated October 9, 2026; source reporting dates vary.
Aggregate case or report counts. They are not counts of unique faculty, established misconduct, or disciplinary sanctions.
Reporting periods
Year labels are preserved from each source. UC San Diego uses academic year reported. UCSF labels years AY 2022 through AY 2026 without defining their boundaries or time basis. Merced OPHD prints 2021 through 2026, while its APO table uses year ranges; these have not been mapped to each other. The UCLA report covers July 2020 through June 2021. Berkeley’s report titles use the year in which the July–June reporting period ends (for example, the 2025 report covers 2024–25).
Blank and zero
A printed zero remains 0. A blank or unavailable source value appears as a dash. UCSF supplies no annual breakdown of outcomes, findings or receipt types; these are shown only for all reported years together. Merced OPHD findings after 2023 are not provided, and APO’s first two year columns are blank. Exports retain a separate value-status field; blanks are never silently changed to zero.
Totals and findings
UC San Diego multi-year totals sum the reported yearly counts. Completed UCSD investigations are the sum of violation-found and violation-not-found cases. Open UCSD cases combine the two distinct in-progress rows. UCSF has 19 completed investigations across its 18-case formal-investigation row and 1-case UCB row. UCSF’s CPRA team explains that the UCB case involved allegations from Berkeley students against a volunteer UCSF faculty member who is also Berkeley faculty. Its 10 violation-only, 8 no-violation-only and 1 mixed-finding cases remain distinct; no binary findings percentage is calculated. The CPRA team confirms 6 cases in initial assessment and 1 in formal investigation remained open at the time of its note. Its closure reasons and findings are nested within parent subtotals, which must not be added to their component counts. Merced OPHD reports 5 completed investigations: 3 violation findings and 2 no-violation findings. Its 5 open cases have no specified process stage. Merced APO counts include some OPHD cases and describe overlapping process stages; no combined office total or APO finding rate is calculated.
Comparisons
No combined campus total or ranking is calculated. Population, office coverage, time basis, case definitions and deduplication need to align before a comparison is meaningful. Faculty headcounts are not supplied, so rates per faculty member are not calculated.
Public reports
The Public reports tab preserves UCLA’s office-specific counts and rounded percentages, and Berkeley’s annual volumes, investigation findings and selected faculty measures. Populations and time bases differ. Berkeley’s 2022–23 employee SVSH finding rows reproduce a chart that conflicts with the accompanying text; those values carry a source_conflict status in exports. Public-report counts are not added to the campus response datasets.
Updates
This is a fixed snapshot of the supplied campus responses, UCSF’s CPRA clarification, UCLA’s public report, and Berkeley’s 2021–2025 public reports. To extend it, add each new campus response with its source, reporting period, population and original categories, then reconcile the tables before refreshing the dashboard.
